Parking charges at Walt Disney World

March 17, 2018 By

This week Disney announced guest reservations made after 21st March 2018 shall be subject to parking charges at Walt Disney World Resorts. A lot of non-Disney hotels in the area already charge for parking and Disney have now followed suit. Four Seasons, Swan and Dolphin and Bonnet Creek resorts to name a few already charge for self-parking.  Walt Disney World (WDW) has now followed suit.

Do people have cars at Walt Disney World?

Yes, they do!  With increasing airfares, many guests will drive to Orlando.  Many Floridian residents will be driving and will need to park their car somewhere.  A number of Guests who fly into Orlando like to have their own car to drive to non-Disney theme parks.  I am from the UK and I love to be able to drive to the shopping malls and outlets!  It has been a perk to staying at a WDW resort to have free parking included in the Accommodation charges.  Guests who stay at WDW resorts will still be eligible for free parking at all the Disney theme parks.

What are the new Parking charges at Walt Disney World?

The overnight standard self-parking charges will be dependent on your resort category.  To find out which category your resort falls under please visit “Resort Categories at Walt Disney World”. These are the following charges:

  • Value Resorts – $13 per night.
  • Moderate Resorts – $19 per night.
  • Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts – $24 per night.

Exclusions

The following exclusions apply to the new charges:

  • Standard overnight parking is complimentary to Guests staying at Fort Wilderness Campsites.
  • Day Guests who are visiting Disney Resorts for dining, shopping, entertainment etc will receive complimentary self-parking.
  • Overnight self-parking and valet service, where available, are complimentary for Guests with disabilities. A valid disability parking permit is required.
  • Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members will not be charged for standard overnight self-parking when staying at a DVC Deluxe Villa. DVC members will also receive complimentary overnight parking when using their vacation points to stay at any WDW Resort.

Valet parking, where available, is now $33 per night (sales tax included). If you are dining and have a Tables In Wonderland card as long you keep your receipt this charge is complimentary.

What do you think?  Will this make you reconsider driving to Walt Disney World? Would you still stay at a Walt Disney World resort?

There are currently 30 different resorts at Walt Disney World (WDW) making choosing where to stay quite a difficult decision. Each resort is magically themed and falls into one of four of the resort categories at Walt Disney World:

  • Value
  • Moderate
  • Deluxe
  • Deluxe Villas

To help you choose your resort here’s some more information about each resort category at WDW.

Value Resorts:

Value resorts are the least expensive of the resort categories and are perfect for families and adults on a budget yet wanting to enjoy the magic of staying at a highly themed Disney resort.  The resorts will have a number of pools spread out across the property.  Each resort offers some cool pools, as well as an expansive self-service food court.  There is usually a bar either at the main pool or near the food court. Other amenities include jogging trails, free wifi, free bus transportation to the theme parks, gift shop, laundry and more! With the exception of the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, the rooms comprise of 2 double beds or 1 king bed and are approx 260 sq ft.

Moderate Resorts:

For a little more space the Moderate Resort Category rooms run from 300-314 sq ft.  The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness are 504 sq ft. Again these resorts are very family friendly, well it is Disney after all!  Unlike just the one bus stop at the Value Resorts, there are more bus stops spread about the Moderate resorts so you never have to walk too far to wait for free transportation to the parks. Each moderate resort also offers a quick service restaurant or food court in addition to a table service restaurant. The main pools at the moderate priced hotels are more elaborately themed, so these resorts are a big hit with kids.
